Teofimo Lopez's second junior welterweight fight drew slightly higher viewership on ESPN than his 140-pound debut four months ago. Nielsen Media Research revealed data Tuesday that indicated an average of 951,000 viewers watched Lopez defeat Sandor Martin by split decision in a 10-round main event Saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York. ESPN's peak audience for the Lopez-Martin match was 972,000.

The fight was such a dud. You have one guy running around the ring slapping. This is the problem with boxing. Most people are afraid to fight big punchers because they might lose but then you end up facing light punchers that are only interested in running and make for terrible fights.

Inoue fought a runner in Butler the dif between Inoue and Lopez is that the monster has skills and is a determined fighter and worked the ring until he got the KO Lopez did nothing but got knocked down by a runner n could not cut off the ring. He could not figure out how to honestly and difinitively defeat his opponent. Every fighter has got to fight who is in front of him. But Lopez complains bc a fighter ran from him like he will only fight those who stand in front of him stationary. What a joke.... Now espn will look at some viewing numbers and say look everyone like Lopez he is a great draw and that makes him what ? A decent fighter nope but they will put that together and talk that way.

Believe is the highest viewership of ESPN boxing for 2022. Teo laid an egg but these #s show he’s a star.

You nailed it! Teo literally chased him around and continuously threw a looping right hand. I am man enough to say I picked Teo by demolition but from what I saw Martin was on his bicycle and Teo was in a street fight. It made for boring entertainment.

Certain fighters, promoters, and of course wonky fans love to use the term “running.” It’s like the term de jour for those who want to make excuses for a fighter looking bad against another fighter who actually can box. Whatever happened to cutting off the ring? Body work? Trapping in the corner and on the ropes? Brawling? If you are a counterpuncher and a boxer is out boxing you then make adjustments and do what you have to do to win. Complaining that the opponent wouldn’t stand still and let you beat on him is about the worst thing going these days
