  • Comments Thread For: Andy Ruiz Drops Luis Ortiz Three Times, Wins Unanimous Decision

By Jake Donovan - Andy Ruiz nearly let another one slip away. A trio of knockdowns was the difference on the scorecards, as the Imperial, California native managed a twelve-round, unanimous decision over Miami's Luis Ortiz. Judges Zachary Young (114-111). Eddie Hernandez (114-111) and Fernando Villareal (113-112) scored in favor of Ruiz, who floored Ortiz twice in round two and again in round seven to prevail in their WBC heavyweight title semifinal eliminator Sunday evening at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Former unified heavyweight world champion Andy “The Destroyer” Ruiz Jr. and hard-hitting top contender Luis “King Kong” Ortiz went face-to-face at the official weigh-in Saturday before they meet in the ring this Sunday, September 4 headlining a FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The weigh-in also featured fighters competing on the stacked four-fight pay-per-view undercard beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. In the co-main event, top lightweight contender Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz battles Eduardo Ramirez in a WBC Lightweight Title Eliminator.

Plus former three-division world champion Abner Mares makes his ring return against Miguel Flores in a 10-round attraction, while unbeaten rising star Jose Valenzuela duels Edwin De Los Santos in the 10-round telecast opener.

It does make it difficult for some countries outside the USA. There is a holiday on Monday in the USA so I don't think the PPV numbers will suffer much. In fact since Ruiz and other fighters have a large fan base USA so maybe they didn't think it would be a problem. It is really weird having it on a Sunday night though.

Somewhat interested in the Rayo v De Los Santos.

I think the late replacement De Los Santos is alright - but man Rayo looks waay bigger in the weigh-in.
