The money at HW in the 90s was insane especially for American HWs. Foreman, Bowe, Tyson, Holyfield, etc, etc… Even some territorial guys in the early 2000s drew big crowds & made serious bank. When 42 year old Holmes fought Holyfield he got 14 million. In the early 2000s one HW who drew massive crowds in Buffalo that Lennox actually considered fighting was Joe Mesi. HBO was pushing him & he would pack that arena against good journeymen like Davarryl Williamson, Robert Davis & David Izon. He ended up having a brain injury against Jirov & no major athletic commission would sanction him. He ended up in politics… The money back then was unreal so more contenders fought each other…

You're right the money back in the 70s and 80s were huge for HWs because back then if you were 6'5 220 lbs boxing was your only option. With the emergence of the Nba and Nfl it only makes sense for the big guys to go that route because the money over there is infinite! In today's HW era you basically only have four HWs (Wilder, AJ, Fury,Usyk) that get paid the big bucks. Contrast that with the Nba and Nfl and you have hundreds of guys signing 100, 200, 350 million $ fully guaranteed contracts. That's why people like me who are huge Wilder are so passionate about him because this may be one of the last ones we see in a while.

This poor guy is under rated - losses only to kownacki, Ortiz, and Joshua? He looked in great shape and form against Ortiz but just got caught
