  • Comments Thread For: Vasiliy Lomachenko-Jamaine Ortiz: Deal Reached For October Lightweight Clash

Vasiliy Lomachenko is set to resume his career. The famed Ukrainian southpaw touched down in Los Angeles on Tuesday to begin training camp for a planned fight in the fall. BoxingScene.com has since learned that Ukraine's Lomachenko now has a date and opponent for the event, as he will face budding lightweight contender Jamaine Ortiz. The bout will headline an October show on an ESPN platform from a U.S. location to be determined. October 22 and 29 are the working dates for the event.

Great to see Loma back, hopefully we get Haney-Loma early next year

That's a big step up for Ortiz and I don't see it ending well for him huge disparity in class.

Loma fighting a top 10 ranked fighter for his tuneup and Tank fighting Rolly outside top 10 for his PPV.

Very reasonable opponent for a return fight after being on a layoff in Ukraine.

All sanctioning bodies are biased in that they don't consider other bodies and everyone available. The WBC for example don't even have Terenece Crawford in their welterweight rankings, which makes no sense. Transnational, Ring or Boxrec are more credible as they include everyone as a whole, and Rolly is definitely not top 10 when considering everyone.

Orgs don't consider the champions of other orgs - has been since forever.

Bottom line: Rolly WAS ranked. People just don't like Rolly even though he helped Tank sell tickets with his mouth - which is key for a prizefighter.

Loma doesn’t have much time to waste, being that he’s a small guy in his mid 30’s. The time he spent over in Ukraine was precious time that he could have used to build on the momentum that he gained in 2021. I’m interested to see what he’s going to do going forward

My comment had nothing to do with the commercial quality of Rolly, but the opposition quality of Tank. He's going the Wilder route fighting bum after bum while his peers take on harder challenges for tuneups.
