  • Comments Thread For: Showtime Head: Our Goal Is To Be In Business With Jake Paul Long Term

Showtime is all in the Jake Paul business. The premium cable network linked up with the polarizing Youtube-star-turned-boxer last year on a multi-bout deal. The first fight, a pay-per-view show, featured Paul in an eight-round cruiserweight bout with MMA champion Tyron Woodley, which Paul won somewhat controversially by eight-round split decision. It was only the beginning. Showtime aired Paul's next bout, a rematch with Woodley. Paul ended matters more decisively with a one-punch knockout in the sixth round.

Espinoza and Showtime should have pulled the plug on the August fight for Paul once Tommy Fury couldn’t do it. Should have waited to get a post-rehab JCC Jr in the fall or even gone to the UK for an autumn fight with Fury. This fight with HRJ is going to bomb in attendance and PPV views - and even if Paul wins, all the whining Rahman Jr has done about having to lose weight and accept the fight on short notice will allow the critics to diminish what Paul did. Paul still has a week to strain his back and cancel - he should do it. Just give Rahman Jr his full purse as a “go away and stay away - forever” payment and keep it moving.

Showtime/PBC doing so many terrible PPVs that this is actually one of their better ones. Let that sink in. And don't forget Andy Ruiz vs senior citizen Ortiz in about a month.

With all the money they lose on those 150-200k Porky PPVs they need someone who they are not losing money on. I guess if his next fight flops like the Woodley rematch they will change their tune. A once great network turned sideshow. HBO at least left the sport with some dignity in their part in Boxing history. Showtime on the other hand rather leave it being a punchline. Thank you Mr. Haymon!

basically, Rahman is going to fight with his guards down and take a dive. most of us already knew that.

Can't blame the Showtime exec. The ones in the PBC stable fight once a year and won't fight each other.
