  • Comments Thread For: Giovanni Cabrera Drops Gabriel Flores Jr. Three Times, Wins Wide Unanimous Decision

Giovanni Cabrera followed his handlers' advice and finally fought more aggressively Saturday night. The strategy change paid off for the southpaw from Chicago, who dropped Gabriel Flores Jr. three times on his way to winning a unanimous decision in their 10-round lightweight fight on the Isaac Dogboe-Joet Gonzalez undercard at Grand Casino Hinckley in Hinckley, Minnesota. Cabrera, who floored Flores twice in the first round and again during the fifth round, won by the same score, 98-89, on the cards of judges Tim Cheatham, John Mariano and Patrick Morley.

Called it Josue Vargas 2.0. I will give him credit though he does have heart but thats what happens when you talk bigger than you are.

Terrible way to have it all crash within 3 fights. Senior did his son no favors allowing him to take that sustained beating in a fight he showed no signs of turning around.

Regardless of the slippery logo, Flores doesn't react well whenever punches land on his head. I didn't like his body language in either loss and I doubt his future success. He has heart of a warrior and his father seems more than willing to let him absorb punishment.

Can't punch and can't take a punch. Not the best combo.

The arrogance that Flores often displays will make this loss that much sweeter for those of us who find his attitude, behaviour and words to be somewhat classless. The boy has a big mouth for someone who doesn’t have the ability to live up to his own words.
