  • Comments Thread For: Mairis Briedis Puts On Game Face - And Crocodile Hunter Hat - For Title Defense In Australia

By Jake Donovan - The sport's reigning lineal cruiserweight champion has spent the past several months trolling a YouTube star for his next payday. Mairis Briedis has finally ditched the act--to a degree--for the actual challenge that awaits him in a division where he is already the king.

If DAZN wants to build a solid base in Oz, then they need to be prepared to challenge the entrenched corruption that rules amateur and professional boxing.

Boxing is ruled by various corrupt en******, most of whom have no interest in furthering the sport.

DAZN needs to understand Australian sporting culture, which does not respond to cheap gags, and NY-style trash talk.

Australia has a lot of potential if the criminal element is wiped away, let's not forget that once upon a time boxing made front-page news as recently as Jeff Fenech's reign.

It is not enough to put on a few title fights once a year as even Australian boxing fans know how corrupt our system is.

They need to start with the amateur system, AIS program, and then the chasm that opens up after the Olympic cycle where fighters are swallowed up by actual backyard 'gyms'.

Unfortunately, Australia is a place where you need to rip out the weeds first, put in new soil, plant new seedlings, keep the pests and disease away, and nurture the growing plants by having them compete in a robust and hardened local setup (not importing Thai kickboxers to pad records).

If that monumental task can be achieved where local match-ups become even just a little interesting, then the bedrock has been laid and the rest will follow.

The only other alt. path is to work together with our northern Asian neighbors in creating exciting rivalries' with evenly matched fighters.

    There you have it, Eddie.

If you really want to crack the potentially lucrative Oceania/S. E Asian market, then get in touch with me.

So far, no outside promoter has solved the riddle. If they do, well as we say here- LOOK OUT.

I hope Jai Opetaia wins. Breidis is plumbing new depths in being a stupid, dislikable schmuck. He really thinks his schtick is 'amusing' & he is wrong, so wrong.
