  • Comments Thread For: Edgar Berlanga Faces Fine, Suspension For Attempted Bite In Win Over Alexis Angulo

The New York State Athletic Commission is prepared to take a bite out of Edgar Berlanga's paycheck and career. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that a fine and suspension awaits the unbeaten super middleweight prospect due to his in-ring conduct in his most recent bout. Berlanga outpointed Roamer Alexis Angulo over ten rounds this past Saturday at Madison Square Garden's Hulu Theater in New York City, but not before attempting to bite the former title challenger in the seventh round of their ESPN-televised main event.

Attempted? Looked like he bit to me.

Hell ya, fine this pirck and suspend him. Biting in boxing has to stop, insta-dq, lose your purse, 1 year suspension, and a fine.

And the win should be turned into a DQ loss. Fine and suspension do nothing. 6 months is about the time he was gonna come back anyway.

headliners can easily afford a 10k fine and the 6 month ban is dumb anyways because he wasn't going to come back until the late fall/winter.

War, that was a full fledged bite of a pb&j sandwich on the side of the neck imo. His a$$ needs a square reversal and be banned for at least 1-2 years. This mofo is gonna get his a$$ beat by a good contender and bite his effin nose off bc of the lack of discipline from the NYSAC. This is a joke to Berlanga, but it’s a taste of his future to come!

If an attempted and admittance of a bite is a mere 6 month suspension and $10k fine, that says everything about the chances of the sport ever coming down hard on serial huggers and clinchers. Terrible, blatantly bad judging goes unpunished. TKO’s caused by a rabbit punch are also valid, despite the foul. Incompetent refs.

Boxing is the Wild West of all major sports. Why are there even any rules at all? Just for show?

Berlanga can give them 20 grand and bite the next guy who won't lay down.

1st offence should be a slap on the wrist (considering it didn't alter the outcome) with a very strict no nonsense warning.
