  • Comments Thread For: Hearn Lays Into Yarde, Warren: You Could've Fought Buatsi...But You're Waiting'

Promoter Eddie Hearn thinks Anthony Yarde may be wilting away on the vine. In a recent interview, the head of Matchroom Boxing lambasted Yarde, the British light heavyweight contender and top contender in the WBO, and Yarde's promoter Frank Warren, for refusing to entertain any other fight besides a potential one against the winner of a planned title unification bout between 175-pound titlists Artur Beterbiev (WBC, IBF) and Joe Smith Jr. (WBO).

Warren will line up some roadsweeper for Yarde to KO later this year.

He'll never make the Buatsi fight that's for sure.

This is eddies fault. Warren wanted Yarde buatsi years ago, Yarde ended up going Russia. It’s amazing how Yarde isn’t allowed to wait and he AINT getting a shot. Yet eddie ran around making out Whyte was mando for a thousand days or years.

Eddie doing this as he knows it won’t happen. He knows buatsi looked awful when Yarde went and faced Kovalev.

Yarde has actually stepped up in his career. Buatsi has lived protected fighting in his backyard at all times.

Eddie and Matchroom are in their last few months of relevancy. Next year they’ll be begging Yarde to fight buatsi.

Eddie same blueprint with all his guys. Fight 20 cans and then fight for a vacant “regular” title that means nothing. Then that fighter faces a true champ in a unification Fight and Get exposed badly due to their poor level of competition faced.

Hearn's not wrong here. Yarde should be staying active. I can understand not taking a hard fight to protect his mandatory position but with a title shot potentially so far off still he should keep busy

"jeopardizing Yarde's status by putting him in just any fight"

Surely Yarde is the one who would potentially jeopardise his future with his performance in "just any fight"... Say against someone like oh i dunno Lyndon Arthur who'm he managed to annihilate when he got a shrift wake up call regarding his career WHICH is going straight down the toilet at the moment. Yarde is a badd-mann but he needs to fight more and showcase his skills. You don't have Kovalev going the way he did in his own back yard (pun intended) if you're not very good he doesn't need protecting.

Eddie Hearn makes some good points, but no way would he be putting Yarde in with Buatsi if the shoe was on the other foot. It’s a 50/50 fight, just makes more sense for Buatsi.
