  • Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson Drops, Dominates Oscar Valdez To Unify WBC, WBO Titles

LAS VEGAS - Shakur Stevenson handled Oscar Valdez just as easily Saturday night as the confident southpaw always predicted he would. Stevenson's superior skill and speed enabled the emerging two-division champion mostly to pick apart the previously undefeated Valdez in their 130-pound title unification fight at MGM Grand Garden Arena. A consistently sharp Stevenson, who closed as an 8-1 favorite at MGM Grand's sportsbook, recorded a knockdown during the sixth round and overwhelmingly won a unanimous decision in a main event ESPN televised.

The long-awaited 130-pound grudge match is almost here.

WBC champion Oscar Valdez (30-0, 23 KOs) and WBO king Shakur Stevenson (17-0, 9 KOs) are ready for their unification showdown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Valdez-Stevenson, an eight-round lightweight co-feature between U.S. Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis and Esteban Sanchez, and the four-round Nico Ali Walsh-Alejandro Ibarra middleweight special attraction will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Good opportunity for Keyshawn to get some exposure, his rivals record is interesting

Hoping for a great main event, Valdez is tuff w/ tons of heart but I like Shakur via TKO. Not looking forward to the multiple 30 minute vignettes telling me Nico is the grandson of Muhammad Ali.

Could Stevenson fight the winner of Haney-Kambosos later this year? Because if he beats Valdez AND the winner of Haney-Kambosos in the same year, he's Fighter of the Year and top 5 P4P, without a doubt.

I rewatched the fight between Shakur and Ramirez in the Olympics. I saw some similarities between him and Valdez. The only thing going against Valdez is his age. I predict IF Valdez can land on Shakur. We will see the “oh sheeit” look on his face. Valdez can hit harder than Shakur.

Valdez walked in confident, while Shakur ran out like he was too small or scared lol.

Shakur by decision though. Video I watched didn't have the full faceoff though.

Has Stevenson had to strip down to make weight before?

Valdez has a tough task ahead. Shakur may be too slick for Valdez to land consistently, so Valdez really needs to make his shots count.
