  • Comments Thread For: Taylor-Puello: TGB Promotions Wins WBA Purse Bid; Could Force Taylor To Vacate

Josh Taylor's run as boxing's undisputed 140-pound champion might've come to an end Friday. TGB Promotions won a WBA purse bid for the right to promote Taylor's mandated title defense against Alberto Puello. BoxingScene.com has learned that the winning offer was $200,000, the minimum for WBA purse bids, and would be split 55-45 in Taylor's favor in the highly unlikely event he decided to defend his WBA belt against the unknown Puello, who is Taylor's mandatory challenger.

Is Taylor going to vacate all his belts or just this one?

Kinda black eye for the WBA, 200k for your jr welterweight title is pretty low, especially for a unified champ.

It looks like Taylor doesn't sell well in the US or the UK. That's sad because he's a hell of a fighter. He should be way more popular than this. With TR neglecting to pay for the Teo and Taylor fights (while paying for the Devin undisputed fight) and Dazn skipping out on Devin and Andrade, it looks like those two outfits are telling us that they are paying for the big money making fights only. Looks like PBC is getting back into the 140 game because they gotz a lot of talent over there in that division. Hurry back Montana Love!

I mean his promoter did not even bid for the fight so clearly they had no intentions of taking on this fight...My question is why did they not just vacate this belt ahead of time? Is Taylor still going to be fighting at 140?

Taylor isn't fighting for £110k and TR not even bidding sort of tells the story doesn't it?

However, now that WBO have not ordered an immediate rematch with Catterall, and he has no mandatory status, let's see if Taylor actually moves up to 147.

Taylor will vacate. No use to fight for such a low purse and then having to pay sanctioning fees, training fees, taxes etc. In the end he will be fighting for free. Don't think even his promotional company wants anything to do with the fight.

Those rankings of #1 and 2 are terrible.
