ARLINGTON, Texas - Jose Valenzuela validated himself as a legitimate lightweight threat Saturday night. The hard-hitting, 22-year-old southpaw knocked out former world champion Francisco Vargas with a single punch in the opening round of their 10-round, 135-pound fight at AT&T Stadium. Valenzuela's looping left hand dumped Vargas flat on his back with 1:37 to go in the first round on the Errol Spence Jr.-Yordenis Ugas undercard.

That looked like a two-piece. Shades of Lewis/Rahman 2 from my eyes.

EDIT: Yep, two-piece but the one punch was all that was needed.

Raw power right there. I'd like to see him go rounds now.

That’s one reason I wouldn’t buy these BS fights due to them trying to fool the people with these dead veteran fighters whom shouldn’t even have a license any dam ways. Don’t support Pay Per View!

Vargas is done done. He was a force for a while, but that was broken and since he has looked pretty pathetic in comparison with where he used to be. Hope he doesn’t keep this up and get seriously hurt.

Jose "El Rayo" Valenzuela is the same fighter who knocked out Teofimo Lopez Jr. twice in separate sparring sessions.
That happened a few years ago while Valenzuela was still a teenage amateur, and Lopez Jr. was already a pro boxer.
Jose "The Lightening" Valenzuela, apparently packs a lot of thunder to go with that lightening speed of his, so watch out lightweights.
He needs to watch out throwing that over arcing hybrid over hand/left hook of his, because if some can time it, step inside, and catch him.
It can be lights out for the lightening man, because he also leaves his chin out there to be hit when he throws that punch.
So it could turn out to be his Achilles Heel, knockout or be knocked out, and lets see if he can take a punch as well as he can deliver one.
For now the kid looks young, fast, powerful, and on his way up the ladder to a successful career in the sport of boxing.
