SAN ANTONIO - Emmanuel Tagoe could not have been more thrilled when he received the phone call for his next ring assignment. The streaking lightweight contender from Ghana has long sought for a crack at the division's top players, including a pursuit of this very fight for the past two years. The opportunity to face unbeaten Ryan Garcia (21-0, 18KOs) didn't require a second thought. In fact, Tagoe made a point to immediately say yes, as to not give the other side a chance to change their mind.

IDK, is Tagoe for real? It is odd that Africa produces very few good fighters, despite there being a lot of tough, athletic young men from poor backgrounds. The only 2 countries that do manage to produce decent fighters on a regular basis are S Africa & Ghana. Tagoe is Ghanaian so he may have gone to a decent gym with a coach who knows boxing. He is undefeated Ghanaian l/w champ &, as I say, Ghana produces some good fighters, so I guess he must know what he's doing. I might risk £10 on Tagoe. Can't work out worse than the National!

Tagoe is no Shakur. He will have to cut distance on a guy who hits harder, is younger, taller, dreams about jabbing. He is the C side. This is target practice for Ryan.

Keep it in your pocket. Tagoe is no Azumah Nelson or Ike Quartey. He's handpicked, organic, free-range cannon-fodder.

If Tagoe pulls this off, we'll never hear the end of it. Ghana will have a new national hero. IF.
