SAN DIEGO - Julio Cesar Martinez still has a fight but with plenty of work left ahead. The WBC flyweight titlist failed on two official attempts to make the 115-pound contracted limit for his scheduled 12-round junior bantamweight fight with legendary former four-division champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez. Martinez weighed 116.4 on his second try, nearly two hours after weighing a beefy 117 pounds during the official commission weigh-in Friday morning.

How do you go UP a division, and still miss weight?

Really like Martinez, but come on.... He wasn't even close to the mark.

Julio needs every advantage he can get, it was on purpose ; had the WBC flyweight title been on the line he would of made weight. Shame on the pro Martinez crowd for cheering this bum in spite being informed that he failed to make the limit, Roman Gonzalez did not need to fight at the 115 limit as this is a none title fight, but given that he is acclimated to 115 and Julio is not, he honored the terms.

The only thing I can think of is that he only had six weeks to prepare and/or his team underestimated the 3 lb wiggle room

Thats actually quite common. You got a guy who is killing himself to make weight & then you say, 'oh Julio, you don't need to worry so much, you're coming in 3lbs heavier' & he's like, 'wow, so I can eat what I like?' This is why you need really professional people around a fighter. It seems like Julio did NOT have professional people around him.

kind of kills the hype for this fight, Cesar win or lose it will be tainted, a win will say he was heavier more comfy weight drop, a loss its he was dehydrated badly or didnt trained properly

            Hopefully its a war
