Maybe now Sauerland can start paying to bring in decent opponents for some of their fighters…

Free to air boxing is always good, we need it in all countries as a feeder for the other channels, yes even Fox ;-) though it's a shame about their numbers.

Hughie Fury vs Sam ***ton did 2.9 million viewers a few years back on Channel 5 ( a channel no one watches) and its sister channel for the British a few years back. Imagine what the BBC could do?

These things needs to be long term, this is not the first time that Channel 5 has played around with boxing.

In order for such a deal to be long term, great events need to be produced. And the broadcaster needs to start associating themselves and their brand with the sport.

This is good news, ch5 coverage is frequently hilarious. The Frampton v Herring coverage was brilliant, no messing around, the broadcast started about a minute before they got in the ring, none of the presenters really had a clue what they were doing, and the wonderful Steve Bunce spent half the punditry session talking about infectious diseases. More of this please.

I’m too young to remember if the UK had regular Saturday night fights on terrestrial TV before 2000-ish, just remember watching sporadic bouts involving Skelton, Fraudley and Danny Williams.

Gotta say, wish someone would bring back that deal the U.S had in the 80s/90s, where any old random Joe could turn up and fight pros with iffy records on live shows every saturday.

Great stuff. Ive enjoyed plenty of nights getting in from the pub, with a chinese or indian, and watching the boxing on channel 5 with the mrs.
