  • Comments Thread For: Robson Conceicao Boxes Past Xavier Martinez For Unanimous Decision

Robson Conceicao responded to his first professional defeat by beating an undefeated contender Saturday night. In his first fight since unbeaten WBC super featherweight champ Oscar Valdez defeated him, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist out-pointed Xavier Martinez in a high-stakes 130-pound encounter ESPN televised from Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The 33-year-old Conceicao contends he didn't get proper credit on the scorecards versus Valdez, but judges Henry Ellick (99-91), Henry Gueary (100-90) and David Sutherland (98-92) all scored Brazil's Conceicao (17-1, 8 KOs) a wide winner over Sacramento's Martinez.

The main event features a 130-pound title eliminator with Robson Conceicao facing Xavier Martinez, preceded by a co-main junior welterweight battle between Rene Tellez Giron and Giovanni Cabrera. Both bouts are 10-rounders.

Nice showing Nico. Keep him on the undercards and let him develop & grow.

I'm glad ESPN dialed back the hype and put him back lower on the undercard. He looked decent, has relatively fast hand speed and some pop. His defense is pretty porous.

He actually comes off as a pretty nice, level headed guy when they are battering you with Ali references.
