  • Comments Thread For: Gary Russell Jr. Still Has Time

By Cliff Rold - The inactivity of WBC featherweight titlist Gary Russell (31-1, 18 KO) since winning his belt with a four round thrashing of Jhonny Gonzalez in 2015 has never obscured the reality of what happens when the bell rings.

This is suggesting Russell could win 6 title fights in the next 3 years????!! In three years Gary will be back for his mandatory. Even if he wins 6 more title fights it will take him 12 more years minimum.
And if he goes through Navarrate, Tank, and Colbert,he wont have enough left for 3 more defenses. Then Lomo? Stevenson? ridiculous.

Where the hell is Gary Antuanne Russell!!! He might be even better than GRJ!!! Would love to see him fight Batyr Akhmedov, or Viktor Postol!

Nobody wants to fight Gary unless they have to. Also he doesn't do a case for himself in staying more active. The obvious skills that he has if he would put them on display more often he would had more fans backing him up. He is a super high risk fighter that doesn't bring in the millions. Gary has slowed down a tiny bit so he might be getting hit a bit more.

Gary Russell is throwing his talent away just like Ward did before him. It's his life, he can live how he wants, just a waste of talent. Tragedies happen to everyone, im sorry to hear about his dad's passing, hoping he can overcome

BX, I don’t fully agree on this. G. A. R. Is good but lacks the finesse and speed with combos as his older brother seems to have an abundance of

How is it that there are several big PBC names around him, and he hasn't managed to fight any of them? Unless the plan was to grab a belt and just defend against mandatories. He could literally hold onto a belt until he gets old. He doesn't want big names. It's the long con. Once a year for the next 8 years. Cash out at the end.

It's starting to look that way, isn't it. At 33 he doesn't have too much time left if he's wanting to do much more than be that guy.

Itīs amazing how boxing is biased towards African-Americans. How can Russell still hold a belt if he doesnīt fight? If it were another fighter, they would take away his belt, i.e. Paquiao. This racism needs to stop.
