  • Comments Thread For: Nonito Donaire Continues To Defy Father Time in The Ring

By Corey Erdman - Nonito Donaire sat next to Reymart Gaballo at their pre-fight press conference, no hangers on or dais between them as is customary in boxing. It would have been pointless to feign the necessity of barriers or restraint between two fighters who genuinely liked one another, and in Gaballo's case, idolized his foe. As it turned out, there was a more practical reason for Donaire to sit next to Gaballo, as he wound up acting as a translator for Gaballo at one point. As Gaballo described what he needed to watch out for against Donaire, he looked to Donaire for the English translation of what he was saying.

Donaire is also signed up to VADA 24/7/365 & was the first pro to complete two years on unannounced PED testing. The only thing he's ever tested positive for was covid. Can't say that about Canelo.

Nonito is a class act from start to finish, inside and outside the ropes. His fight with Inoue was one of the greatest fights ever imo.

"Offering to help and mentor an opponent seconds after knocking them out is several strides beyond sportsmanship, it’s uncommon generosity."

Really? Sounds more like smug superiority to me??

How would a fight between Nonito and Floyd have played out? What if these two guys fought each other mythologically at a catchweight of 128lbs. Floyd was still the pretty boy at the 130 division, was hungry and had good offense and power. Meanwhile Nonito was just trying to be great moving up to here to chase greatness. That would be his career 1.0. now he is the 2.0 back down at the lighter weights knowing that he can't compete at feather. Who wins this all American showdown? Neo? Or pbfm? This would be Floyd's second (or first at the time) Filipino to fight against . This is no different than cottos team throwing Henry Brussels in there to take the lesson first from the wizard before Cotto did. And he did a heck of a job at it btw (Miguel I mean ).

It's too much work to look up all the ranked contenders he fought so I'll just list the current, former, and future champs he fought:

W vs Fernando Montiel TKO 2
W vs Omar Narvaez UD 12
W vs Wilfredo Vazquez Jr SD 12
W vs Jeffrey Mathebula UD 12
W vs Toshiaki Nishioka TKO 9
W vs Jorge Arce KO 3
L vs Guillermo Rigondeaux UD 12
W vs Vic Darchinyan TKO 9
W vs Simpiwe Vetyeka TD 5
L vs Nicolas Walters TKO 6
L vs Jesse Magdaleno UD 12
L vs Carl Frampton UD 12
W vs Ryan Burnett RTD 4
L vs Naoya Inoue UD 12
W vs Nordine Oubaali KO 4

15-5 record, 11 KO, 1 stoppage loss against world titlists (only counted full titlists of the WBA, WBO, WBC, IBF, and Ring or lineal champs; no Regular, Interim, IBO, Gold, Diamond, or other nonsense belts)

              Titles won
              112: IBF/IBO
              115: WBA interim
              118: WBC/WBO, WBA, WBC
              122: WBO/IBF/Ring/Lineal, WBO
              126: WBA

4-division champion and an interim belt, 7 world title reigns, 2 unified reigns, 10 major belts won, 1 minor belt, 1 interim belt, 1 lineal title.

Take note, all you cherry picking bum-blasters out there (I'm looking at YOU Demetrius Andrade, Tank Davis, and all the LHW champs that won't fight each other). That's what a real champion's resume looks like. Anybody, anytime, anywhere, any weight. Win or lose, Nonito Donaire goes to WAR.

                What a resume.
he is definitely up their with Canelos resume.
I prefer Donaires cause he has no catch weights and all his wins have been without bias one way or the other.
What a great man and a great fighter.

In this time of rampant PED use, to have achieved all he has whilst signed up for year round random testing at his own expense is possibly donairres greatest accolade.

I really like donaire, seems genuinely like one of boxing nice guys, I remember when he lost to rigo something like 8 years ago everyone writing him off and saying he was finished and then the Walters loss, then Frampton (jesus was that nearly 4 years ago) and here he is still defending world titles.

One of the biggest examples of you can't EVER listen to what boxing fans say, he'd have packed it in years ago if he did.
