  • Comments Thread For: Belfort Reacts To Critics, Defends Stoppage Win Over Evander Holyfield

Former UFC world champion Vitor Belfort has come out in defense of last month's first round blowout of 58-year-old Evander Holyfield. Holyfield, a former undisputed cruiserweight and heavyweight champion, took the fight on very late notice after Oscar De La Hoya withdrew with a COVID-19 diagnosis.

Belfort did what he was supposed to do, the shame should be the promoters who knew Holyfield had money problems and would fight for any income. It was looking at Mike Tyson and Roy Jones and saying damn that made money let's hop on the bandwagon.

They keep saying that Holyfield took the fight on very late notice, which is true. But he started training for Tyson a year ago and was already prepared for what was a scheduled fight with Kevin McBride on June 19. I'm not going to argue that at 58 he shouldn't have been there, but keep in mind he's only 3 years older than Tyson and everybody expects to see more of Mike. IDK...everybody made their much-needed money and nobody got hurt.

Why didn’t Belfort take boxing when he was young? I wonder. 99% chance of ATG.

He simply not going to get credit for beating a 58 year old heavyweight champion.

He really shouldn't want that credit of beating a 58 hear old man, and then selling it like he was in the fight of his life against an active champion.

What a joke. When Holyfield climbed through the ropes you could see clearly his balance was ****ed.

Somebody in all honesty needs to tell David Haye to fight Victor Belfort 'Let them both have a real fight'.

There was no reason why, Belfort and Holyfield could not just hard spar 'Have a move about and close out the show'.

In my opinion Belfort took a completely opportunistic liberty 'His behavior was quite low as a fighter'.
