  • Comments Thread For: Tony Yoka Gets Closer To Title Contention On An Emotional Night

By Corey Erdman - Tony Yoka wore quite a few emotions on his sleeve as he walked to the ring to face Petar Milas on Friday night. As the laser and light show lit up Roland Garros and a mashup of EDM music hyped up the crowd before his usual ring walk music of "Wanksta" by 50 Cent took over, Yoka was visibly excited to be fighting on center court in this kind of environment. While other high level fighters have been in front of crowds during the pandemic, Yoka's decision to remain in France forced him to fight in mostly empty venues for his last two bouts due to COVID-19 restrictions. Before the fight began, he smashed the top ropes with both gloves. The French hero, who usually has a composed and regal air about him looked a lot more aggressive than usual.

I think that goes to show what a good job ol fish eye's has done getting Joyce to the front of the que.
      Hrgovic & Yoka haven't had a meaningful fight yet in 4 year's.
Promoter's, contracts, belts & Tv blocking the sport when they should all be fighting each other for 1 spot.
Imagine they're being 4 olympic belts with another 8 splinter belts & you can see the farce boxing has become.

i forgot all about him. He is a skilled fighter but not watched him since 2018 and it looks like i've not missed much

Always liked yoka, but the fact he's reluctant to go outside france is to be blamed. Yoka vs Hrgovic and the winner v Joyce.

              Title contention?

Fury or AJ would get crucified if they fought this nobody.

We get fed rubbish like the Paul brothers, The 'legends league' (which dipped in interest after the Tyson-Holyfield clash was dashed) and other circus acts, yet we have guys like Yoka, Hrgovic, Ajagba, Whyte, etc who could be better matched - I'm not saying they ought to be rushed - especially in the case of Dubois who still has a lot of adjustments to make - but surely some decent journeyman are out there to fight rather than the ranked #150 cab drivers served up which helps neither the fighter nor the sport.

We all want to see the best fight the best. Thankfully AJ, Wilder and Fury are doing there part, and once the dust settles there, there ought to be a whole range of intriguing match-ups to contemplate.

This was a great win for Yoka , Milas was no pushover a very fast orthodox and unorthodox fighter who has probably the best footwork very light on his feet wasn’t going to be an easy fight for a 10 fight fighter coming in it was even prior to the stop in 7th .
