    Highlighted by a knockdown in the eighth and final round, reigning WBC USNBC Silver Super Middleweight Champion Kendrick Ball Jr. (17-1-2, 11 KOs) of Worcester, MA, defended his title for the first time with a unanimous decision win Saturday over challenger Tyi Edmonds (14-4) of Meridian, MS, at MGM Springfield.

    I was at this card, Ball's best weapon is his big right hand. Edmonds gave him trouble but didn't have the power to keep Ball off. Someone with pop and someone who moves away from that right hand and neutralizes it can take Ball. Good scrap.

    The welterweight fight between Josh Wagner and Jeffrey Torres was excellent. Evenly matched 7-0 welterweights. Wagner beat the hometown guy. He dominated early but gassed a little bit in rds 5 and 6, which let Torres back in. Major props to walk into a guy's backyard and beat him. He said post-fight he'd travel anywhere and do it again. Both guys deserve shots on local cards because if nothing else they're entertaining and have some decent skill
