  • Comments Thread For: Jake Paul Does Not Expect a Floyd Mayweather Fight To Ever Happen

YouTube star turned boxer Jake Paul highly doubts that a potential fight with Floyd Mayweather will ever happen in the future. Last month, Mayweather took part in an eight round exhibition fight with older brother Logan Paul.

Why is Jake actin’ like Floyd didn’t mention 154 pounds harping on the mention of 147...Ricky Hatton would cut from 200 pounds to 147...it’s really about discipline!!!...

“If Jake Paul can come down to 154 pounds, then we can see his skills.” - Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

Lol, he won't fight Jake at the cruiserweight. But okay, actually wise, than being hurt by a guy who only had a few years of training.

He's a youtuber, but he's also a bit more than that. I think Floyd won't come back, what for, he has all the money. He wouldn't beat Pacquiao now, so rather stay retired. He had a fantastic career.

As for Jake Paul, he's going to make a few million and then depart the sport.

I don't think can everyone can do that though. Some people have bigger frames than others.

          Jake Paul is 6'1" tall.
          Ricky Hatton is 5'7" tall.

          Don't pretend they are comparable.

Jake Paul is the size of a typical light heavyweight and could probably come down to Super middleweight at a push. Anything more than that is taking the plss.

But when will he stop ducking and fight Golovkin, Andrade, Benavidez, Beterbiev and Bivol?

We’re talkin’ about 21 pounds...the average fighter is walkin’ around 40 to 60 pounds above the weight limit...the disciplined ones walk around fightin’ weight...are you sayin’ Jake Paul can’t lose 21 pounds???...

I'm saying something that shouldn't be controversial. Which is that weight matters in boxing. Trying to fight significantly below your best fighting weight is a huge disadvantage. A natural light heavyweight who has trained and cut down to fighting weight weighs 168lbs. To cut down another 21lbs on top of that would, at the very least, leave a LHW ridiculously weak -- and probably dangerously so. To dismiss it as just a trivial matter of discipline is disingenuous.

And even following through with your logic: if the average fighter is walking around 60lbs above the weight limit. For his fight against Askren, Paul weighed 191.5 lbs.

Now do the math and tell me how he would only need to lose 21lbs to get down to 154lbs?

If he's walking around 40lbs higher than the fighting weight of 191.5lbs, then he is walking around at 230+lbs and would need to lose a mammoth 84lbs...

And even assuming he didn't lose any weight at all in for the weigh-in against Askren, then his walking around weight is 191.lbs, it's still more than 37.5lbs he'd have to lose.

In a nutshell: Paul has fought so far at cruiserweight. Given his size I think he could fight LHW, possibly SMWat a push (as I said before). Which is to say, I think he could comfortably drop one division, two at a push. But anyone asking a fighter to drop four weight divisions simply doesn't want the fight.

Floyd is looking to fight Brandon Rios and then Broner and then Mathysse. Those are great matchups, don’t you think?
