  • Comments Thread For: Ellerbe: Josh Taylor's An Excellent Fighter; Probably 70 People At Tank's Fight Even Heard Of Him

ATLANTA - Gervonta Davis doesn't need Josh Taylor to do big business. Leonard Ellerbe realizes that blunt assessment won't satisfy devout boxing fans that would love to see Davis remain at 140 pounds to challenge the undefeated, undisputed junior welterweight champion in Davis' next fight. But Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Floyd Mayweather himself and others involved in Davis' career are more concerned with continuing to build Davis into a star that transcends boxing.

I guess he has a point, but still not a reason not to fight Taylor, although I favour Davis. Tank has star quality, can't deny that, exciting fighter.

To be fair any crowd that size is going to be largely
made up of casuals abs probably didn’t know barrios either. Tank is a bonafide boxing star who sells. If he were to fight Josh Taylor you better believe that would be a Vegas sized fight selling out any arena or casino it would be held at. The problem would be the politics of course, would both the pbc diaspora and top rank want to work together for that fight. My guess is they want tank’s profile to grow even more before a fight with a p4p type. If I were his handlers I’d want to see two voluntary defences at 140 if in fact he chooses to stay there. If he is going back to 135 or 130 then it’s all moot

That’s what I was about to say. He’s trying to make it sound as if it’s a good thing.

Could it be that Tanks fans are stupid and probably can't even put Scotland on a map?

Josh is more popular than Barrios. That's for sure!

And you all trying to make it seem like it’s some sort of grand accomplishment Do you think his fans care about being boxing historians? Usually the ones who brag about knowing soooo much about boxing has never won a fight a day in their life. You all don’t get it, the world is bigger than boxingscene no one cares what you crybabies think. You’ve been crying and complaining since Floyd exhibition. People are going to pay and watch what they want to. No one is forcing you all to support..
