  • Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson Dominates Jeremiah Nakathila Over Twelve For WBO Interim-Title

By Keith Idec - Shakur Stevenson was masterful defensively Saturday night and dropped a supposedly superior puncher. The undefeated southpaw went the distance for the third time in his past four fights, yet Stevenson thoroughly out-classed Jeremiah Nakathila throughout their 12-round, 130-pound title fight in Las Vegas. The skillful Stevenson, who floored Nakathila late in the fourth round, impressed the judges enough to win all 12 rounds on the cards of Max De Luca, Lisa Giampa and Dave Moretti - each of whom scored the Newark, New Jersey, native a 120-107 winner.

Shakur Stevenson (15-0, 8 KOs), a former WBO featherweight world champion, will battle Jeremiah Nakathila (21-1, 17 KOs) for the vacant WBO interim junior lightweight world title at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. (photos by Mikey Williams)

This will be Stevenson's third bout at 130 pounds, and a big step towards a potential showdown with WBO junior lightweight world champion Jamel Herring or WBC king Oscar Valdez. Nakathila has won 10 straight fights, all by knockout, since the lone loss of his career.

In the 10-round junior welterweight co-feature, former two-weight world champion Jose "Sniper" Pedraza (28-3, 13 KOs) will fight Julian "Hammer Hands" Rodriguez (21-0, 14 KOs). The winner will be in line for a potential world title opportunity.

Don’t know much about the opponent. Is he good enough to make this fight at least semi competitive?

He can bang but has pretty terrible fundamentals and such. Bookies give him like a 5-6% chance of winning...

Stevenson might actually be the goods but he hasn't fought even one quality opponent and this is no exception.

I just can't watch Stevenson fight unless I mute the tv. The hero worship the ESPN crew heeps on him is something I haven't seen since Jim Lampley.
