  • Comments Thread For: Salita: Different Type Of Nervousness For Shields' MMA Debut; This Is Unprecedented

Dmitriy Salita will feel a different type of nervousness when he sits beside the cage Thursday night in Atlantic City. Claressa Shields' promoter is uneasy when she boxes, but Salita considers the undefeated three-division champion the best female fighter, pound-for-pound, in that sport. Watching Shields make her mixed martial arts debut will elicit more anxiety because she'll compete for the first time outside of a sport she has dominated when she battles Brittney Elkin in a three-round lightweight fight at Ocean Casino Resort.

"the biggest name in women's boxing" isn't going to cross-over for an @ss-whooping is she? I imagine the opponent has been carefully selected. Also she said she's done with boxing so why so much coverage on boxing websites? Is it because no-one likes her so there's a plethora of comments i.e. clicks? We get told to be kind but they only run half of the stories on her as a platform for people to be the opposite... for clicks.

I understand she’s been training with Winklejohn? That should make up for the lack of time in training grappling

Having Shields fight a 3-6 tomato can is a good way to start her off. Can't feed her to the wolves just yet.

I hope she took it serious. And knows it's not just grappling she has to worry about. I remember Heather Hardy's face getting wrecked by kicks a few years ago when she was a top boxer.

good for her. she complained about boxing and did something about it. a lot of boxers today would be better off if they had gone the MMA route.

I can’t wait for her to embarrass boxing.
