  • Comments Thread For: Hearn: Haney Nowhere Near Going Down; But People Don't Talk About Linares Dropping Loma

LAS VEGAS - Eddie Hearn has been surprised by how much attention the shakiest instance of Devin Haney's career has received. Haney's promoter was impressed with the way Haney recovered from Jorge Linares hurting him just before the end of the 10th round Saturday night. The 22-year-old lightweight champion took a misstep as he headed back to his corner after Linares landed a crushing right hand and a lesser left seconds before the bell rang.

Just remember there is no Superman--with few exceptions, most great fighters have been down and even KOd. It can happen to Haney Teofimo Ryan Tank Crawford Spence Canelo etc.

Because Loma got up and fought back and got the stoppage...

Well, perhaps because any sensible person would think that getting Bambi legs is worse than suffering a flash knockdown.

People constantly talk about Loma being dropped lol, yet he got up and continued to box

Boxing experts/journalist still had Bumachenko as #1. P4P, ahead of the true master-boxer in the sport, Terence 'Bud' Crawford. Devin Haney, out-boxed Jorge Linares and did not hit the canvas, like Vasily who was down on the judges score-cards. I think Devin Haney did better than that overrated bum, Lomachenka.

If Linaras would of hurt him 30 seconds before the rd was over not at the end of the rd, Linaras would of stopped Haney!!!

Loma gets up and stops Linares...never wobbled or went into survival mode...Fury gets dropped hard against Wilder...gets up and takes the fight to Wilder and actually wins the rest of the rd...the same for Wilder when dropped by Fury in the 2nd fight - fought back. None of the above champions resorted to embarrassingly clinching and literally lunging and embracing their opponents crotch out of desperation to survive and not b Ko’d. Even worse to claim “not to be hurt” after the fight. The canvas rose up and tripped Haney as he walked back to his corner!

It's relevant insomuch as we should recognise Linares is a good fighter who can punch hard. There's no shame in Haney being buzzed and he didn't go down, this is true. The worry is how long it took Haney to recover after. He just wasn't at the races for the remainder of the fight. Loma was a little more careful to keep his hands up after his knockdown, but otherwise was still there looking to box and hurt his opponent.

Haney isn't trash for getting buzzed and then taking an OTT safety-first approach for the rest of the fight , but he certainly can't take any credit for it.

So to make a quick summary of the difference: Haney was literally hanging on to the end of the fight after taking his big hit; Loma didn't clinch once and got a stoppage.

(And Linares was 32 vs Loma, compared with 35 vs Haney)
