Vergil Ortiz Jr. is coming into his own as a welterweight contender and a box office draw. The unbeaten knockout artist enjoyed the best of both worlds in his most recent contest, a 7th round stoppage of Maurice Hooker (27-2-3, 18KOs). Their March 20th all-Dallas shootout played to a sold-out crowd at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The event--which streamed live on DAZN--produced a live gate of $391.040 from 4,558 tickets sold according to the final tax invoice provided by Golden Boy Promotions to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), a copy of which has been obtained by BoxingScene.com.

Sadly he's in a division where nothing gets resolved. He'll get frozen out until someone vacates.

So much talent in this division. Ortiz will be a world champion soon. Hopefully we can get Spence vs Crawford soon, but that’s just wishful thinking.

Ortiz can beat the very talented and suspect chin T. Ducford but he better stay away from Spence. its just to dam early in his career. should it happen then that fight will have cowboys stadium rockin

Sadly the 147 division has its own pandemic called "too many promoters and fighters unwilling to work with each other" means that only being a mandatory can help a fighter get a shot. Not to mention champs saying that they dont need to fight other champs for their own legacy or being overpriced or underpriced. It doesn't end.

I think he's the future and I hope he's still comfortable making weight at welter when that flock of ducks from 135 finally arrive.
