  • Comments Thread For: Ramirez-Barrera, Diaz-Fortuna Doubleheader Set For July 9 On DAZN

Months after nearly ruining one show, Joseph 'JoJo' Diaz has arrived to salvage another. The former junior lightweight titlist has agreed to next face Dominican Republic's Javier Fortuna on July 9 at a venue to be determined, two sources with knowledge of the situation informed BoxingScene.com. Diaz accepted the fight in place of unbeaten lightweight contender Ryan Garcia, who withdrew due to personal reasons. Also on the show, Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez (41-0, 27KOs) will make his Golden Boy Promotions debut. The former WBO super middleweight titlist--who now campaigns at light heavyweight--will face veteran contender Sullivan Barrera, with the fight having been in development for nearly two months.

This is looking like a solid card. It’s about time that Zurdo stepped up his level of opposition, and Barrera is the right guy for that.

Not anymore he's not IMO. His last fight he looked ancient against Jesse Hart, and that will be over two years ago by the time Zurdo fights him.

It is a long way off so who knows who will show for the fight but that said could be interesting. Jo Jo lost his belt but is now moving up in weight so see how he does at this weight class. Like I said early in the game but could be a card in the mid summertime.

Great to see Zurdo getting a well needed tune up. Hopefully he gets a title shot at the end of the year.

Decent card, Fortuna is a handful for anyone.

I can’t disagree on that. The last time Barrera was sharp and at his best was against Bivol.
