  • Comments Thread For: Berglana-Nicholson Drew Average Viewership Of 803,000 On ESPN, More Than Main Event

ESPN's audience grew Saturday night as knockout artist Edgar Berlanga was extended the distance for the first time as a pro. Nielsen Media Research released data Tuesday that indicated an average of 803,000 viewers watched Berlanga's eight-round points victory over Demond Nicholson on Saturday night. Viewership peaked at 829,000 toward the end of Berlanga's unanimous-decision victory over Nicholson at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Florida.

More proof that KOes sales fights. He had a good back story in ending every fight in the first round and more people tuned in. They might have been disappointed with that performance but he still got 4 knockdowns.

KOs, especially quick ones, definitely do generate buzz. Tyson is an obvious, Valero another. Even lesser known guys like Julian Letterlough, Edison Miranda and James Kirkland generated buzz when they went on KO runs (albeit against lesser competition).

The ones who tuned out for the main event missed one hell of a fight.

Probably a bunch of Puerto Rican casuals.

Just another sign that casual fans are just adrenaline junkies with gnat-like attention spans. How in the hell can that many people tune in to just one guy that's known for getting taxi drivers outta there in under 3 mins? Crazy, but not unheard of. Meh.

Yeah they might as well make Berlanga Main Event honestly because even most of the Live Crowd left after his fight

Average Ratings no surprise, it went head to head with a stacked UFC PPV

You still hear from Brunson and didn't do anything after his streak of KOes ended.

I am not sure how to judge this.

yes it’s great for Berlanga and now he is a legit main headliner for espn shows.

that said, why would people not watch Navarette? I am biased because I like him so much ( no ****) but he and Diaz on paper was a solid fight that was even better than expected.

Judy goes to show you how an undefeated record and a string of ko’s resonates with casual boxing fans.
