  • Comments Thread For: Emanuel Navarrete Drops Christopher Diaz Four Times, Stoppage in Twelfth of Fire-Fight

By Jake Donovan - Emanuel Navarrete survived a spirited challenge and partisan crowd to extend his second divisional title reign. Christopher 'Pitufo' Diaz showed plenty of fighting heart but was ultimately outgunned by Mexico's Navarrete, who scored a 12th round stoppage to defend his WBO featherweight title Saturday evening at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Florida. Navarrete scored four knockdowns on the night, the last of which subsequently prompted a stoppage at 2:49 of the 12th and final round in their ESPN-televised main event.

Central Florida will turn into Northern Puerto Rico on Saturday evening when two of the island's favorite boxers look to make emphatic statements. (photos by Mikey Williams)

In the main event from a sold-out Silver Spurs Arena, two-weight Mexican world champion Emanuel "Vaquero" Navarrete will make the first defense of his WBO featherweight world title against Puerto Rican challenger Christopher "Pitufo" Diaz. The co-feature will see Edgar "The Chosen One" Berlanga, 16-0 with 16 first-round knockouts, test himself against veteran contender Demond Nicholson in an eight-round super middleweight tilt.

Navarrete-Diaz and Berlanga-Nicholson will air live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, with undercard action set to stream live and exclusively on ESPN+ at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.

I think Diaz has the slight advantage in hand speed and sharpness but Navarette is more fluid with combinations. Wonder how Diaz is going to deal with Navarette's lunging attacks

Watch my boy Navarette tonight. Really good matchup for him.

Navrette wins this and let’s see if some of the big names show some guts and step to him.

imo one of the 10 best p4p boxers in the sport right now.

I will say, one thing TR does absolutely right, is televise the ENTIRE show, not a single undercard fight ever not shown, love that they do this. Need Matchroom and PBC to start doing the same
