  • Comments Thread For: Vlasov's Handlers File Protest Over Loss To Joe Smith: Complaint Over Officials, Drug Testing

The handlers for Maxim Vlasov (45-4, 26 KOs) have filed a protest with the World Boxing Organization over the officiating for this past Saturday's fight in Tulsa, where the Russian boxer lost a twelve round majority decision to Joe Smith (27-3, 21 KOs).

Kind of odd... Complaining about drug testing but talking about their own guy not getting tested as opposed to Joe who didn't look to have any extra stamina help from any illicit substances. If anything he looked overtrained and basic, regressing to just loading up big shots unlike his last two, more stellar performances.

Unfortunately, it seems when fights happen at these Indian casinos (Mohegan Sun usually but this place in OK seemed suspect too) lots of stuff goes out the window and there's a whole host of corruption of shady backdoor deals going on. The massive robbery in the Rodriguez Gaballo fight for instance, or even odder incident of when Roland Romero's opponent was 5 pounds overweight and they gave him an hour to lose it as if that's possible or healthy at all (guy came back weighing even more ironically) Probably more examples but I can't think of any at the moment. I do know from personal experience that a lot of tribal groups are very corrupt at the highest levels and really screwing over their general populations just to rake in more cash.

Regardless of any of that vaguely related stuff, it seems weird to have near an entire family of officials judging one bout (Lippe Morrison fight had 3 of 4 officials named Ritter..) and half of them had that name in the Smith Vlasov fight.

I mean wtf do I know honestly, just some overthinking drunk theories of a mad man. But Ima post it anyway.

The judges were incompetent or corrupt; order the rematch.

The fight was razor close with the Russian on queer street on many occasions. And very fortunate to receive recovery time when a shot that connected on top of his head clearly showed he ducked right into it. If anyone has a beef, it's Smith. Again, in my mind, after the fight, I didn't know which way the judges were going to go. That was a close close fight. And the judges scorecards reflected that. He doesn't stand a chance in his dispute.

He can get a shot at J.S. Jr. after Jr's next fight how is that ? LH has a lot of trouble getting there fights lined up and in the ring. He can get more fights but the noise might help the 175 division get some attention but they are not going to go back in time on this fight until they move forward. Drugs ? If you have a complaint about drug testing say it before a fight takes place not after. You want a drug check, drug check the ref. Check his pockets and his I.D. makes about as much sense as this complaint.

When has a formal protest ever resulted in an immediate rematch or overturn the decision? Not often.

Officials?? I still haven't watched it yet, but from what I've read, you got help big time with that recovery time in the 12th

I've seen them lead to immediate rematches quite often, but they've never overturned a decision except to make it a NC due to drugs or some ****.
