  • Comments Thread For: Conor Benn Hopes To Finish Vargas Quicker Than Vergil Ortiz Did

Conor Benn says he hopes he will get to box for the European title and get a world-title eliminator later this year and box for a world title in 2022. The 24-year-old faces Samuel Vargas at the Copper Box in East London on Saturday in the latest step to what he hopes will be the chance to emulate his father, Nigel, by winning a world title.

Benn is decent, but he’s floating to the deep end if he’s insinuating a fight with Ortiz. Vergil would hurt this boy

I don't think he has to clean up at the domestic level but targeting a British title on his way on to European/World honours wouldn't be a bad thing.

Comparing how he performed against Formella to his early career was night and day but he's still not very experienced (or old) so if I was him, I'd fancy getting that experience and using it to continue developing and evolving as a fighter before competing at a higher level

Benn has no amateur experience and is fighting the 94th ranked boxer in his 17th fight that's fine progress, not the best but fine.

Wilder was a bronze medalist and fought someone who lost his last 6 in his 23rd fight for example, that's what record padding looks like.

Not sure about past his prime, he's just always been a gatekeeper, every time he's stepped up, he's lost.

But that's fine, the sport needs gatekeepers, Benn himself is only a prospect so it makes sense to see if he's reached this level

Still hasn’t fought for an area title...

Matchroom are terrified of matching their fighters domestically.

Benn should be fighting McKinson, Kongo, Kelly, Essuman etc and gaining valuable experience before being rushed towards a world title just to cash him out on PPV.

Only way that happens is if we get an AJL, howard foster or Terry O Conner special. waving it off after a flurry of semi landed punches on the ropes

Nah. You want to see a padded record you go back to the "greats", when the times the "best always fought the best" LMAO Julio Cesar Chavez fight 18 he beat Jesus Cuate Lara W 0 L7, FIGHT 25! He beat Ramon Peraza W1 L6 Fight 32! He beat Jose Resendez W14 L29 IN FIGHT 50 he beat Roberto Collins W2 L15. THIS IS WHAT RECORD PADDING LOOKS LIKE.
