Sorry Hearn, Lopez has all the belts and took down the best in the division. Haney holding a fake belt and failing to impress, the Gamboa fight was a snoozer where if he was the best he would have clocked a highlight reel KO.
It's a good fight, and the best on Haney's resume but beating a lightweight that Lomachenko beat three years closer to his prime does not make you the best lightweight in the division. In fact, it still keeps you behind Loma and Teo.
Yup, Loma was the real champ, just ask the WBC boss himself. He flat out said Lopez undisputed. Slapping Haney in the face, getting pimped for a fake belt. Sorry if you don't like it just stating the facts straight from the source.
It doesn't show anything about Haney being the best lightweight. That firmly belongs to Teofimo Lopez.
What it does do, is the start to a solid resume for Haney and gives him a little more legitimacy through beating a gatekeeper of the division. Potentially lining up Teofimo or Garcia. Maybe even Lomachenko if Garcia does his twitter finger duck and Teofimo is too focused with his own reflection.
I don’t think it confirms Haney is the best LW but it will make the top LW’s continue to avoid him.
well to be honest, I can’t say Teo will not fight him. I think Teo legitimately wants to unfit all the belts. We will see. I hope he fights Haney before he goes to 140.
Ryan, Tank and Loma don’t look like they want any part of the high risk, low reward Haney.
