Joe Ward accomplished Thursday night what he intended to do the first time he fought Marco Delgado. The Irish light heavyweight prospect defeated Delgado by unanimous decision in their six-round rematch. Judges Gerardo Martinez, Charlie Ruiz and Jose Roberto Torres each scored all six rounds for Ward, 60-54.

This was a boxing match. Ward was very patient, picking his spots and was very effective when he let go those sharp combinations. Really listened to his corner, letting everything fly from the outside like they were imploring him to. Delgado was trying the Joe Frazier style of pressure, pushing forward and trying to get inside. He just was not that effective.

Ward is sharp, but he needs to be more active if he wants to be TV friendly. Excellent win for a young fighter.
