  • Comments Thread For: Benavidez: Ronald Ellis Wasn't Our First Choice; He's The Only One Who Accepted The Fight

By Jake Donovan - The immediate discussion amongst the team for David Benavidez regarding his future at super middleweight was that he would have to be put to the test in order to remain in the division. From that slightly awkward conversation came the hard part--finding the right opponent for his first fight back following his second title reign.

Benavidez really set himself back when he lost the title on the scales. No way clenela fights this guy if he were still champion

It would of sounded good if Benevidez had said Canelo, Plant Smith or Saunders had turned him down. Saying some no name from the PBC or some other no name from the PBC turning him down doesn't really have the impact it's desiring.

Benavidez is a tall big guy, who could easily fight at light heavyweight. If he can't get the Canelo fight one day, then who wouldn't love to see him against Beterbiev and Bivol, fights where you don't know for sure who wins.

I'm not sure Plant and Saunders could deal with the heat Benavidez brings, but Canelo could. It seems like Charlo is definitely not keen on fighting Benavidez. It's a fight he doesn't think he can win, and Benavidez might even stop him.

Benevidez should have just tsjen a deep breathe and moved up to 175 when the two fights then title shot was presented to him. He could do better than defining himself by waiting around for the Canelo golden lottery ticket, like the others at 168. Bivol, Beterbiev, Smith all up there, or maybe that's the problem.

Charlo too much of a coward to go up and fight him.
