  • Comments Thread For: Hearn on Canelo-Saunders: We'll Insist On One British Judge; We Need Neutral Panel

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida - The odds obviously aren't in favor of Billy Joe Saunders knocking out Canelo Alvarez when they meet May 8. Saunders' promoter hopes to ensure that a neutral panel of judges will at least afford the undefeated southpaw a realistic chance of upsetting the Mexican superstar on the scorecards. Eddie Hearn - whose company, Matchroom Boxing, promotes Alvarez as well as Saunders - thus will insist on the assignment of one British judge to their 12-round fight for Alvarez's WBA and WBC and Saunders' WBO super middleweight titles.

All American judges is Neutral. Since neither are American. I'm pretty sure when Canelo has fought in the Past, most of the judges have been American and not Mexican. If Eddie is insisting on a British judge ( which I must say England is on the top of the list when it comes to some really bad decisions and home cooking for their fighters) then a Mexican judge needs to be appointed as well. But at the end of the day this fight needs to be judged by an experienced team of judges and shouldn't be based on Nationality.

Eddie wants the judging to be "neutral" for BJS so he will be pushing for a British judge. Doesn't sound neutral.

Presumably he means balanced and therefore an attempt to neutralise potential bias. Brevity being the soul of wit, he says neutral. The article gives plenty of times when American judges have favoured Mexican Canelo, so I would suggest anyone who was neutral themselves would see what he's coming from.

Who knows with these judges, though. Bad decisions happen all the time and British judges do it just as much as anyone.

That's not neutral it's just trying to even out the bias. Really neutral would be no North American judges, no European judges. But the rest of the world prefer Mexicans to Brits so they're not neutral either so judges have to be from an uncontacted tribe. Or we could find 3 judges who are good at their jobs in Vegas? Maybe the uncontacted tribe thing is more realistic though

Does this mean this fight won't be in Nevada?

Hmm, does that mean we need a Mexican judge too? You know, to keep it neutral.
