No matter what I think of DLH as a promoter he fought the best fighters available, at every point in his career. He fought all time greats past their primes and he fought the modern greats of his time when they were at the top of their games. He rose in weight to take on the beat opponents all the way to middleweight while starting at lightweight, going down to junior lightweight and back up. DLH and Canelo could not be more different in their careers

De La Hoya was a greater fighter than Canelo is. A better boxer, fought to a fight he arguably won against Mayweather, and he had more variety of skill. The only thing Canelo does better is vicious body punching. Pernell Whitaker would have boxed Canelo's ears off.

Oscar fought far better prime competition than any fighter today. That said, Vernon Forest and Winky Wright tried to get Oscar in the ring but had to settle for beating the only two fighters (at that time) with wins over Oscar. In the end Oscar simply wasn't interested in fighting either man.

Oscar had far and away better legs and better movement. IMO, Canelo although difficult to catch clean seems to stand in the pocket for long periods and take long breaks. Prime Oscar was always on his toes. He had blistering speed, a piston Jab and a crushing left hook that put tough guys on their ass. As I see it, Oscar at the very least would have outworked Canelo and if he caught him with something solid Oscar would finish them. Canelo is good but Oscar was better.

Oscar’s best fight in ‘97 was Whitaker, and he was bigger. DLH walks around weight in his prime was 170lbs. So even today, DLH is about 205lbs... to put in perspective. DLH was draining to make his lower weight fights, so if at 24 DLH was walking around 170lbs off camp, like Crawford, shows that at Canelo at 24 was with Lara.

Canelo is taking tougher fights. Sturm...? Means DLH’s optimized power was peaked at 147-154. At Middleweight Oscar had no pop. Whereas again, Canelo now at 30, is fighting guys bigger than him and fighting at higher weights if we’re comparing relative size.

Respect to oscar for biting his tongue and not calling out culero. Ginger is unifying a shlt division and saunders is the only one who could pose a problem but even then the ring will be small and the judges are in canelos pocket
