Last week, promoter Yvon Michel of GYM was discussing the upcoming plans for WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (27-1, 22 KOs).

Michel wants to stage an event with Stevenson as the headliner on June 4th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.

Stevenson's team were looking at three candidates: Andrzej Fonfara (28-3, 16 KOs), Edwin Rodriguez (28-1, 19 KOs) and Eleider Alvarez (19-0 , 10 KOs).

At the time Michel was claiming that Fonfara was asking for a lot of money to make the rematch happen.

"It is not yet known whether Rodriguez will be available. He was scheduled for a fight that would have taken place on the 12th of March [with Thomas Williams], which will either be canceled or postponed [to another date]," Michel told The Montreal Journal.

"In terms of Fonfara, his representatives are asking for a lot of money in order to face Adonis, but [that fight] will depend on the financial resources available. If it does not work with Rodriguez and Fonfara, Alvarez is ready for this opportunity."

Stevenson was last in action in September, when he easily knocked out Tommy Karpency.

According to Fonfara, the rematch won't happen any time soon as the two sides were unable to reach an agreement.

"Our second fight will not happen any time soon. Stevenson has declined, despite there being an offer of good money [for the rematch]. He will meet with someone else, someone weaker than me. Maybe at the end of the year we will have our rematch," stated Fonfara.

Since the decision loss to Stevenson two years ago, where both fighters hit the floor, Fonfara has Doudou Ngumbu and former world champions Nathan Cleverly and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
