Los Mochis.- Former triple world champion in three different weight divisions, Fernando Montiel, confessed that he would like to say goodbye to boxing with a farewell fight at the end of this 2018, as a way of thanking for everything that this sport gave him and with the same fans who were always supporting him during his successful career.

Montiel has been out of the ring since getting knocked out by Jorge Lara in a single round back in April of 2016 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. It was his second loss in a row after suffering a twelve round decision loss to Lee Selby in 2015.

The loss to Selby snapped an eight fight win streak.

Montiel cautioned that a final career fight would have to happen by the end of the year or not at all.

"I'll be honest, if I decide to make a fight, if I do it, it would be at the end of the year. If I do not do that fight at the end of the year, I would not do anything else in my career. I would just say farewell," said Montiel.

"I would like to do that fight here in Sinaloa, in Los Mochis it would be wonderful, also in Cd. Obregón, there the people always received me very well, adopted me as a son, I fought several times there, I would be very happy to say goodbye to everyone that I love for the support they gave me."

When asked about which victory was the most important to him for his career, he highlights when he traveled over to Japan and scored a sensational knockout over local hero Hozumi Hasegawa to capture the bantamweight title of the World Boxing Council.

"I think that going to Japan and gaining a victory against an idol of his country that seemed invincible, is the biggest victory of my career, it was something spectacular, it is a victory which I will always have in mind," said Montiel, who has a record of 54-6-2, and 39 before the limit.
