Former multi-division champion Fernando Montiel (46-3-2, 36KOs) recently underwent a new set of medical exams, says his father and trainer Manuel Montiel. The boxer passed with flying colors. The exams were precautionary, to ensure the boxer was not suffering any after-effects of the vicious knockout loss to Nonito Donaire in February. Following the loss, he went through a series of tests and passed, but several follow-up exams were recently held.

Montiel has won two straight, by knockout, since the loss to Donaire. He wants to return on November 19th, but no opponent or venue has been finalized.

"Fernando will fight for a world championship next year," said Manuel Montiel.
