Former three division world champion Felix Trinidad is regarded by many as one of the greatest Puerto Rican boxers in history, has high hopes for two unbeaten prospects from the country.

The last big star from Puerto Rico was Miguel Cotto. The four division champion retired from the sport in 2017 after suffering an upset decision loss at the hands of Sadam Ali.

Since that moment, Puerto Rico has been searching for their next superstar.

At one point Felix Verdejo was viewed as the boxer to become the next big star from PR - but he was unable to meet expectations.

Trinidad believes there is plenty of young talent representing Puerto Rico.

One of the boxers very high on his list is super middleweight Edgar Berlanga.

Berlanga has a record of 17 wins with 16 of them by knockout.

He knocked out his first 16 opponents in the very first round. Back in April, he went the full eight round distance with Demond Nicholson, who managed to survive despite going down several times in the fight.

Trinidad expects Berlanga to become a world champion in the near future.

And the other boxer to catch his eye if unbeaten welterweight Xander Zayas (9-0, 7 KOs)

"Edgar is a powerful boxer with a huge heart. He's learning each and every day, and I know soon enough he's going to be a world champion," Trinidad told the DAZN Boxing Show.

"There are various boxers – a fighter like Zayas. He's a great fighter at 147 pounds. Edgar Berlanga has a very bright future. He needs to continue training hard, stick with his corner, his father, and he will be world champion very soon.”
