The O2 Arena on March 31 was the scene of one of British boxing’s most entertaining and bloody British title fights in recent memory. Fabio Wardley (17-0-1, 16 KOs) and Frazer Clarke (8-0-1, 6 KOs) slugged it out for 12 rounds, with both fighters forced to fight through adversity to remain standing at the final bell.

A bloodied, bruised and swollen Wardley retained his British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles via a split-decision draw.

Promoter Ben Shalom spoke post-fight about his intention to secure a rematch between the pair, given the success of the event and the entertainment both Wardley and Clarke provided on Easter Sunday.

Speaking to BBC Radio Suffolk, Wardley suggested he would be open to a rematch with the Olympic bronze medalist because he wants to be involved in big fights and occasions.

“I’m always looking for the big fights, the big opponents, the big occasions,” Wardley told BBC Radio Suffolk.

“I want to be part of the big events, so there are no steps back for me; it’s always marching forward.”

However, Wardley said he would not be rushed into deciding when he would rematch Clarke and he had already told BoxingScene he had other options.

“I’m still undefeated, I’ve still got all my belts, I’m still in a prime position in terms of sanctioning bodies and rankings, so there are still options for me on the table,” he added.

“There are massive amounts to learn from that [Clarke fight]. It was the first time I’ve had a massive cut like that, the first time I’d gone 12 rounds.

“Knowing I’ve done it and I can do it going forward, having that faith and that self-belief, I still had a lot in the tank, so it gives you good confidence if I have to go through all that again.”
