Kim Clavel has a second chance to become a unified junior flyweight titlist.

The former WBC beltholder is set to challenge two-time and reigning IBF and WBO 108-pound queen Evelin Bermudez on October 7 at Place Bell in Laval, Quebec City, Canada. Yvon Michel’s GYM Promotions formally announced the title fight on Wednesday.

Clavel will appear at the venue for the third straight time, all in an active 2023 campaign. However, her year began with the end of her title reign when she suffered a ten-round, unanimous decision defeat to Jessica Nery Plata in their fiercely contested January 13 WBA/WBC unification bout.

“My journey has not been easy, I have never taken detours, but I have shaped myself and now nothing can stop me,” Clavel said of her next title bid. “I want to thank champion Evelin Bermudez for giving me this opportunity to win her titles. I know that she is a great champion and that she is confident in her abilities.

“I'm going to need all of Quebec behind me, I trust that with my team, my perseverance and all of you, that on October 7th I will be world champion again. Thank you for your eternal support.”

Clavel (17-1, 3KOs) rebounded from her defeat to Nery with a ten-round decision win over Naomi Reyes on May 13 at Place Bell. The feat marked her first win since she outpointed Yesenia Gomez to claim the WBC junior flyweight title last July 29 in Montreal.

Bermudez (18-1-1, 6KOs) will attempt the first defense of her second title reign.

The 26-year-old from Rosario, Argentina was previously dethroned by Yokasta Valle last November 26 in Carson, California. Valle became a three-division titlist with the win but immediately vacated to resume her unified IBF/WBO strawweight title reign.

It left two titles vacant at junior flyweight, which Bermudez regained in a ten-round, unanimous decision victory over previously unbeaten Tania Enriquez on March 10 in Buenos Aires. The upcoming bout versus Clavel will mark the tenth career title fight for Bermudez, as well as her third trip outside of Argentina.

“I have always said that champions must face the best and Kim Clavel is part of this group,” noted Bermudez, who is 7-1-1 (4KOs) in title fights spanning two reigns. “She may have the advantage of fighting at home, but I am a proud and racy Argentina.

“I'll give you a good show and return home with my belts.”
