Reigning IBA world light middleweight champion Evans “The African Warrior” Ashira (28-3, 14 KOs) is in the hunt for big fights in 2008. After returning to his natural weight, the 154 Lb division, a weight he has never lost at, the Danish-based Kenyan is hoping to land a fight with a significant name, and he doesn’t plan to shy away from anybody:

“Spinks, Alcine, Karmazin, Dzinziruk, Forrest, anybody who is looking for someone to fight, let’s get rocking! At 154 I believe I can beat anybody”, says Ashira, who’s thee losses were at middleweight and super middleweight, the latter on points against future Hall-Of-Famer Joe Calzaghe.

Ashira finished off 2007 with a second-round knockout of Canadian Ian MacKillop in September to lift the IBA crown, and had his hopes up for one more outing before the end of the year, but had to undergo surgery to his right knee in November. After a holiday back in his native Kenya, the former WBA and WBO world title-challenger is now easing back in training.

“Now that my knee is fixed I can’t wait to get back in the mix, and unlike so many other fighters out there, I have no problem going to my opponents back-yard.”
