ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – Evan Holyfield had some troublesome moments Saturday night, but the developing son of a legend remained undefeated.

The junior middleweight, a son of Evander Holyfield, defeated a gritty Chris Rollins in a six-round encounter at Borgata Event Center. Judges Ron McNair (60-54) and Robin Taylor (60-54) scored it a shutout for the 24-year-old Holyfield, who won five rounds on the card of judge Anthony Lundy (59-55) in a fight that appeared closer than that.

Rollins (5-4-1, 4 KOs), of Charlottesville, Virginia, scored a victory of sorts by making it to the final bell. Holyfield’s 32-year-old opponent had been stopped inside the distance twice prior to facing Holyfield on the non-televised portion of the Gary Russell Jr.-Mark Magsayo undercard.

Holyfield nearly knocked out Rollins late in the sixth round.

Holyfield and Rollins each landed hard right hands as they traded in the center of the ring barely a minute into the sixth round. With just over 50 seconds to go in the fight, though, Holyfield hammered Rollins with two right hands that hurt him and made Rollins move across the ring.

Holyfield spent the rest of the fight battering Rollins, who showed heart by remaining on his feet until the final bell rang.

Rollins hit Holyfield with a straight right with just over two minutes to go in the fifth round. With just under 20 seconds remaining in the fifth round, Holyfield drilled Rollins with a right hand that appeared to affect him in a neutral corner.

Holyfield split Rollins’ guard with a right hand in the middle minute of the fourth round. Holyfield later landed a left hook and right hand as Rollins pursued him into the ropes late in the fourth round.

They traded shots toward the end of a very competitive fourth round.

After a difficult second round, Holyfield attacked Rollins’ body at the start of the third round, sat down better on his punches. Rollins landed a hard right of his own with approximately 45 seconds on the clock in the third round.

Rollins’ right hand connected with just under 50 seconds remaining in the second round. Rollins landed several other flush punches during a second round he seemingly won.

Holyfield and Rollins each landed right hands while exchanging in a neutral corner in the middle minute of the opening round. Holyfield furiously unloaded a combination to Rollins’ body with just under a minute to go in the first round.
