Former WBA interim-super middleweight champ Giovanni De Carolis (28-9-1) is now official challenger for the vacant EBU title.

In the other corner is German Emre Cukur (14-0), who´s been in that position for some time and before De Carolis came along it was Juergen Braehmer who was official challenger.

The EBU have set January 16 as deadline for purse bids or agreement.

EBU featherweight champion Andoni Gago (22-3-3) defends the title against former titleholder Marc Vidal (12-2-5) on February 29 in Bilbao on a MGZ promotion. Gago beat Vidal back in 2014 in what was a fight for the national title.

Former EBU welterweight king Kerman Lejarraga, now at super welter, is featured on the undercard.

Purse bids for Sandor Martin´s mandatory defence of the EBU super lightweight title against Danish challenger Enoch Poulsen have been postponed from January 15 until January 22. Martin retained the title in December with a points win over Joe Hughes while Poulsen have been sidelined with a knee injury since June when he won the EU title.

Swedish welter Anthony Yigit (24-1-1) is now according to a good source a free agent after this contract with Team Sauerland expired at the end of 2019. An extension or a new contract is apparently not in the cards.

Yigit, when last heard, was announced as one of the participants in the MTK Golden Contract Tournament but for some reason the Swede withdrew or was withdrawn.

Anthony won the EBU super lightweight title in 2017 and challenged for the IBF title in 2018 where he lost to Ivan Baranchyk in what was also a WBSS Quarterfinal.

The third edition of the Vantaa Boxing Night goes ahead on February 1 in Vantaa, Finland, topped by two cruiserweight fights over eight rounds as Samuli Karkkainen (11-1) takes on Hungarian Laszlo Penzes (10-6) and Gennadi Mentsikainen (7-4) is in against Anton Sjomkin (14-11-1). The show is promoted by Pro Boxing Team Finland.
