In a recent press release from the World Boxing Council announce the status of the super middleweight division, they wrote among other things that Chris Eubank Jr, Avni Yildrim and Callum Smith will compete for the WBC Diamond Belt as part of the World Boxing Super Series Tournament.

Well, just for the record Eubank vs Yildrim will go ahead with site/date to be announced and Callum Smith will not shadowbox his way to the title but take on Erik Skoglund on September 16 in Liverpool.

Skoglund is indeed the underdog in this one but he is a live underdog so don´t rule out an upset, so the WBC should show a little more respect towards the Swedish challenger

Werner Kirsch has passed away at the age of 79. Kirsch was a very good amateur boxer and represented what was then East Germany in the 1960 Olympics. He then became a trainer and in 2000 turned to the pros and trained the fighters from the then newly formed SES stable in Magdeburg: Robert Stieglitz, Jan Zaveck, Lukas Konecny, Malik Dziarra, Rene Monse, Natascha Ragosina and SES´ current chief coach Dirk Dzemski all learned the ropes from Kirsch, who retired in 2007.

Belgian Fighting Competition will stage a big show at the Sportcomplex Schotte in Aalst (Belgium) on September 30.

Super welterweights Sasha Yengoyan (40-2-1) and Howard Cospolite (a misleading 15-6-2) clash for the vacant IBF I/C title. Cruiserweight Bilal Laggoune (21-1-2) was earlier in the summer announced as on for a fight against reigning EBU champ Yves Ngabu in an all-Belgian matchup but that fight is apparently now off. Who Laggoune will fight is not announced yet. Also on the bill is super middleweight Timur Nikarkhoev (15-2).
