Former EBU and Italian welterweight champion Silvano Bertini has passed away at the age of 81. Bertini won a bronze medal in 1964 Olympics in Tokyo and then turned pro compiling a 42-3-1 record.

Bertini won the national title in 1968 and the EBU crown in 1969 by winning over Dutchman Fighting Mack. He lost the title to the great Frenchman Jean Josselin. He challenged for the title again in 1971 but lost to Roger Menetrey. In his final fight he was stopped by WBA and WBC super welter ruler Koichi Wajima.

OPI since 82 will stage two shows during July without partners Matchroom and DAZN. First out is a show in Maccarese July 23 headlined by a fight for the Italian vacant super welterweight title between Marco Papasidero (9-2-3) and Mirko Di Carlantonio (11-7).

On July 28 in Verbina super middleweight Ivan Zucco (13-0) defends the national title against Ignazio Crivelli (7-7-1).

Semi-retired former world title challenger Patrick Nielsen (30-3) from Denmark is in custody after a well publicized assault on a woman. Nielsen will to begin with remain behind bars for two weeks. According to Danish media he has partly confessed.

Nielsen last fought in 2019, but had talks with promoter Mogens Palle about coming back in the fall. 

Patrick Nielsen challenged for the WBA super middleweight title in 2014 but lost to Dmitri Chudinov.

Chinese cruiser Zhanoxin Zhang (10-1-1) and his team are now in Brussels, Belgium, for final preparations for his fight against WBA king Ryad Merhy (29-1) July 17.

Zhang has stepped in for IBO champ Kevin Lerena, who was forced to pull out with a serious hand injury.
