Finnish welter Oskari Metz (12-0) is in the final preparations for his fight against Mozes Vasarhelyi (1-3) on May 22 in Belgrade. Now managed by England-based Pole Martin Mikolajczak and Pekka Maeki the 29-year old has trained as well as possible despite gyms shutting down and sparring not allowed due to Covid-19.

"But I feel pretty sharp," says Metz despite a year out of the ring. In his last fight he outboxed much more experienced Pole Michal Syrowatka (22-4) for an upset win on the road. However, then the pandemic closed down just about everything in boxing in Finland and the momentum was lost.

Metz started boxing late, in 2016, and made his pro debut later that year without any amateur fights. However, he did kick boxing for a few years while living in the Netherlands. Back in Finland he found his way to Pekka Maeki's gym in Helsinki and Pekka also coached him early on but the head coach is now Mikhail Karpinskiy.

Co-manager Martin Mikolajczak is confident that Metz can make it to the top in Europe but Oskari himself takes one step at the time. Metz is ranked # 6 in the EU ratings and is # 17 with the EBU.
