As BoxingScene.com reported, WBA heavyweight champion in recess Mahmoud 'Manuel' Charr (31-4) takes on undefeated American Christopher Lovejoy (19-0, 19 KO's) on May 15 at the EC Boxing Gym in Hamburg, Germany, in what appears to be a non-title fight.
Charr last fought in 2017 but has been scheduled to fight a number of times since then. The last time was in January when Charr was scheduled to fight Trevor Bryan in Hollywood, Florida, but eventually couldn't get a visa to the US.
As for Lovejoy he retired in March but is now apparently back again. All of his wins have come in Mexico and mainly against fighters with losing records.
AGON Sports in Berlin has announced two more fights for its big May 28 show. At middleweight Vincenzo Gualtieri (16-0-1) faces Italian Khalil El Harraz (13-1-1) with the vacant IBO Continental title at stake and at super welter Haro Matevosyan (12-0) is in against Damiano Falcinelli (14-0 and also from Italy) for the vacant IBF I-C strap.
Former EBU super lightweight champ Gianluca Branco, now age 50, comes back April 11 on a show in Dar es Saalam, Tanzania. According to boxeringweb in Italy Branco has a Brazilian license. Opponent is Abdullah Luanya (13-8-2).
Branco (49-3-1) last fought in 2014 but was scheduled to fight Leonard Bundu in 2016 but pulled out on very late notice.
Spanish super welterweight Kerman Lejarraga (31-2) is again without a co-challenger for the vacant EU title. First Isaac Real was forced to pull out due to injuries (and he remains as mandatory challenger once he's recovered) and then Zakaria Attou and now Howard Cospolite pulled out.
